CDC dog entry requirements checker

General information, not legal or veterinary advice. This checker repeats the CDC rules summarized on our requirements by risk category page. Always confirm with CDC's own Dog Importation Navigator, and follow USDA, airline and destination-state rules too. Commercial (resale) dogs have extra USDA requirements not covered here. It runs in your browser; nothing you pick is sent anywhere.

Not sure? See CDC high-risk countries explained.

Does every dog need the CDC Dog Import Form?

Yes. Every dog entering the U.S. needs a CDC Dog Import Form receipt. For dogs that have only been in dog-rabies-free or low-risk countries, it's the only CDC document needed. See the step-by-step guide.

How old does a dog have to be to enter the U.S.?

At least 6 months old on arrival, in every risk category.

What if my dog was vaccinated abroad and has been in a high-risk country?

It needs the Certification of Foreign Rabies Vaccination and Microchip form, a valid titer from a CDC-approved lab or a 28-day quarantine, and a reservation at a CDC-registered animal care facility. It can only enter at that facility's airport. See requirements by risk category.
